  • Nifty, Sensex Trending Higher – Weekly closing report
    We had mentioned in last week’s closing report that Nifty, Sensex may try to rally.
     
    The major indices opened low but rallied during the week and closed with minor gains over the previous Friday closing price. The trends of the major indices in the course of the week’s trading was:
     
     
    On Monday, the major indices suffered a decline due to rising political tensions between Iran and the USA. On the NSE, there were 379 advances, 1,449 declines and 337 unchanged.
     
    UCO Bank recovered Rs.800-900 crore from four large stressed accounts in the December quarter under the bankruptcy law and extended credit linkage to 10,000 Self Help Groups. Aster DM Healthcare will be considering buyback of its equity shares. For the quarter ended December 2019, ITI's revenues grew 53.95% year-on-year to Rs978.82 crore. Net profits grew ten-fold to Rs168.25 crore. With this, the company's net worth has become positive after a period of 16 years.
     
    Man Industries has received new export orders of approximately Rs.400 Crores. Vedanta has proposed to offer non-convertible debentures aggregating upto Rs.2,000 crores in one or more tranches. Dishman Carbogen Amcis will consider and review the proposal for buy-back of equity shares of the company.
     
    On Tuesday, the major indices opened high but declined and ended with minor gains. On the NSE, there were 1,206 advances, 585 declines and 352 unchanged.
     
    For the quarter ended December 2019, G M Breweries posted revenue decline of 4.80% year-on-year to Rs429.85 crore. Net profits declined 16.34% to Rs13.98 crore.
     
    Tata Elxsi and AEye announced the successful completion of RoboTaxi. The RoboTaxi, built on top of its software middleware platform Autonomai, allows the user to travel in a RoboTaxi from their current location to the user's selected destination with the press of a button on the screen.
     
    A joint venture of Hindustan Construction and VCCL received a contract worth Rs.489 crore from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) under Phase IV of the Delhi Metro project. HCC's share in the JV is 75% (i.e. Rs.367 crore). The work is expected to be completed in three years. Ester Industries has approved capital expenditure of Rs.111 crores for its specialty polymer business.
     
    On Wednesday, the major indices opened low but recovered and closed with minor losses. On the NSE, there were 742 advances, 1,054 declines and 351 unchanged.
     
    Suzlon Energy defaulted on loans amounting to Rs.7,256.38 crore. The total default amount includes a principal of Rs.6,717.44 crore and interest of Rs.538.94 crore, the company said in a regulatory filing.
     
    Ramco Systems secured a multi-million-dollar global payroll and workforce management (WFM) deal from a leading Australian university. With this win, Ramco will be expanding its foothold in the higher education vertical which is witnessing good demand for HR & Payroll transformation.
     
    Invent Asset Reconstruction emerged as a successful bidder to acquire debt exposure of Garden Silk Mills. The lenders of Garden Silk Mills had invited expression of interest from bidders for sale of the debt exposure.
     
    Shares of Adani Enterprises slipped after media reports suggested that the Supreme Court (SC) has set aside Bombay High Court's order giving relief to the firm in the coal import case.
     
    On Thursday, the major indices opened high and closed with major gains. On the NSE, there were 1,337 advances, 464 declines and 342 unchanged.
     
    The Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached Rs2,510.82 crore worth of movable and immovable assets of SRS Group, its promoters, their family members and of associate companies on charges of defaulting on a loan of Rs1,100 crore.
     
    IL&FS Transportation Networks sought expressions of interest for the acquisition of its entire stake in GRICL Rail Bridge Development. ITNL is the promoter shareholder of GRBDCL and holds 100% of the equity shares of the company.
     
    Drug maker Strides Pharma Science appointed former Cipla honcho R. Ananthanarayanan as their new CEO and Managing Director.
     
    KNR Constructions plans to sell its entire equity stake in a toll road KNR Walayar Tollways Private to Cube Highways and Infrastructure III Pte. Ltd. The company holds 100% equity in the special purpose vehicle (SPV).
     
    On Friday, the major indices closed with minor gains. On the NSE, there were 978 advances, 804 declines and 362 unchanged.
     
    Valued at $3 billion, food delivery platform Zomato secured USD150 million in fresh funding from Ant Financial, a subsidiary of China-based giant Alibaba. With this, CEO Deepinder Goyal-led company has received $840 million funding to date.
     
    Rating agency Fitch assigned a rating of 'BBB-' to Bharti Airtel's proposed US dollar senior unsecured convertible notes. Airtel has announced plans to raise up to $1 billion through foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCB) or debentures, besides $2 billion through qualified institutional placement, public issue and preferential shares or private placement.
     
    GMR Hyderabad Aerotropolis has formed a joint venture with ESR Hyderabad 1 Pte (ESR), a subsidiary of ESR Cayman, to develop a 66-acre logistics and industrial park at the Hyderabad airport city.
     
    For the third quarter ended December 2019, Emami Paper Mills posted 8% growth in revenues to Rs406.91 crore. Net profits trebled to Rs18.50 crore.
     
    Carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) posted a 6% fall in full-year sales after its performance was hit by a weakening Chinese market and falling demand for diesel vehicles in Europe.
     
    Emami Realty plans to raise up to Rs.400 crore through issue of debentures on private placement basis.
