Wave Group VC Manpreet Singh Chadha arrested in Rs100 crore fraud case
Manpreet Singh Chadha, the Vice Chairman of the Wave Group, has been arrested in connection to a Rs 100 crore fraud case, a police officer said here on Thursday.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police arrested Chadha on Wednesday at the national capital's Indira Gandhi International Airport while trying to escape to Thailand, Additional Commissioner of the EOW, Suvashish Chaudhary told IANS.

Before his arrest, the airport's security staff and immigration officers were alerted and Look a Out Circular (LOC) was issued against Chadha.

EOW had registered a case against Chadha in connection with the case including other promoters of Wave Group, Chaudhary said, adding that it was stated in the FIR that the group duped buyers of over Rs 100 crore and made wrongful gains to the company on the name of promising a Hi-Tech township project at NH-24.

Cyclone Vayu won't make landfall in Gujarat: IMD
Cyclone Vayu will not make landfall on the Gujarat coast on Thursday as it was expected, and will pass by the Saurashtra region later in the day, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

IMD scientist Manorama Mohanty told the media here: "Cyclone Vayu will not hit Gujarat. It will pass nearby from Veraval, Porbander and Dwarka."

It is likely to move north-northwest and then north-westwards "skirting the Saurashtra coast", Mohanty said.

Pankaj Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, said that although the IMD has informed that the cyclone has changed its course, "it may still cause heavy winds and rains, and so we are still on stand-by mode".

Skymet Weather stated that the ‘Very Severe Cyclone' may weaken into a Category 1 Cyclonic Storm from Category 2, though the wind speed will be 135 km per hour to 145 km per hour gusting up to 175 km per hour.

Gujarat has, meanwhile, already evacuated nearly three lakh people and the Diu Union Territory, that touches the Saurashtra coast, have moved over 10,000 people to safety.

All 5.57 lakh Waqf properties to be geo tagged: Naqvi
The government has launched a programme for geo-tagging and digitisation of Waqf properties across the country to ensure their better utilisation for social welfare, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Wednesday. There are around 5.77 lakh registered Waqf properties across the country.

Chairing the 80th meeting of Central Waqf Council (CWC) here, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that a programme had been launched on a war-footing for 100 per cent geo-tagging and digitisation of all Waqf properties so as to ensure transparency and safety of records.

This will ensure that the Waqf properties are utilised for educational empowerment and employment-oriented skill development for the needy, especially economically backward girls, in areas which are deprived of such facilities since Independence, said Naqvi.

The government has initiated GIS/GPS mapping of Waqf properties with the help of IIT Roorkee and the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

He said the government was developing schools, colleges, ITIs, skill development centres, multi-purpose community centres, Hunar hubs, hospitals, business and common service centres on Waqf properties across the country.

While just 90 districts were been identified for minority communities' development during the earlier governments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government increased the number to cover 308 districts, the Minister said.

He said a five-member committee headed by Justice (Retd) Zakiullah Khan to review Waqf properties lease rule had submitted its report and the government was taking necessary action on its recommendations.

The CWC was providing financial assistance to state Waqf boards for digitisation of records so that they could complete the process within a time-frame.

The CWC has provided video-conferencing facilities to 20 state Waqf boards and will extend it include the remaining by year end, the Minister said.
