A 24-hour strike by workers at 13 German airports, including major hubs in Frankfurt and Munich, has led to the cancellation of most flights, causing widespread disruption for travellers.

In a post on X, DW News says, "Air travel at 13 German airports came to a standstill during a 24-hour strike that caused the cancellation of thousands of flights."

The strike, which began at midnight on Monday, involved public-sector employees as well as ground and security staff. As a result, the majority of scheduled takeoffs and landings were scrapped, leaving passengers stranded.

At Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe's busiest aviation hubs, 1,054 of the day's 1,116 scheduled flights were cancelled, according to airport traffic data reported by the German news agency dpa.

The walkout, organised as part of industrial action by airport workers demanding better pay and conditions, has effectively halted air travel across the country.

Passengers have been advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates and to make alternative travel arrangements where possible. The strike has not only impacted domestic flights but has also disrupted international connections, leading to significant knock-on effects across Europe and beyond.
