SC bans hotels, restaurants along highways from serving liquor
New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Friday said hotels and restaurants falling within 500 metres on either side of the national and state highways cannot serve liquor.
 
A bench of Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice L. Nageswara Rao, however, relaxed the ban to 220 metres in respect of municipal bodies with 20,000 or less population falling along the highways.

Statistics show that in Kerala which has one of the highest per head consumption of liquor has not had any drunken-driving deaths in 2015. One cannot link drunken-driving deaths and consumption of liquor.

I personally feel that there should be restrictions on the sale of liquor, to prevent brawls, accidents due to drunk driving on the highways.

Alcohol and petrol must be sold only on cards. Hope someday it will materialise
