The central bureau of investigation (CBI) has filed a second charge-sheet in the Reliance Home Finance Ltd (RHFL) case, naming 11 accused, including three former senior executives of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani (ADA) group and seven group-linked companies, over the alleged diversion of ₹7,429.16 crore borrowed by the housing finance company.
The chargesheet was filed on 1 October 2026 before the special judge for CBI cases in Mumbai. The accused have been charged with offences of criminal conspiracy and cheating under the Indian Penal Code, CBI said.
The three executives named in the charge-sheet are: Amit Bapna, director and chief financial officer (CFO) of RHFL; Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, group managing director (MD) and vice chairman of Reliance Capital Ltd (RCL) and Suresh Nagarajan, CFO of Reliance Power Ltd. CBI has also charge sheeted chartered accountant (CA) Vijay Napawaliya, who was the statutory auditor of RHFL.
Seven companies named as accused are: Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, Reliance Power Ltd, Reliance Big Entertainment Pvt Ltd, Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd, Reliance Business Broadcast News Holdings Ltd, Reliance MediaWorks Financial Services Pvt Ltd and Kunjbihari Developers Pvt Ltd.
According to CBI, its investigation so far has found that funds amounting to ₹7,429.16 crore borrowed by RHFL were allegedly diverted through intermediary and conduit entities to various Reliance ADA group companies.
The agency alleged that these transactions were carried out in violation of the terms and conditions imposed by lenders. The alleged diversion caused wrongful loss to lending banks and financial institutions and corresponding wrongful gain to the accused and related entities, CBI said.
CBI had registered the case following complaints from Union Bank of India, formerly Andhra Bank, and other public sector banks (PSBs) that were part of the lending consortium.
The agency filed its first charge-sheet in the RHFL case on 9 July 2026, against four accused persons. With the latest filing, the total number of accused charge-sheeted in the case has risen to 15, including senior officials and group companies.
CBI said its investigation is continuing to establish the role of other accused persons and examine other allegations in the case.
CBI's bank securities and fraud branch (BSFB) at Delhi, has registered nine first information reports (FIRs) against Reliance Communications Ltd (RCom), RHFL, Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd (RCFL), Reliance Telecom Ltd and Reliance Capital Ltd.
These cases were registered on the basis of complaints from various public sector banks, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).
CBI said it had previously filed six charge sheets in cases involving Reliance ADA group entities. The RHFL charge-sheet filed on 1 October 2026 is the seventh chargesheet in these cases.
The agency has so far arrested seven accused persons across the cases, according to the release.
The investigation into these cases is being monitored by the Supreme Court. CBI said it remains committed to conducting an expeditious and comprehensive investigation.
