RBI Penalises Hinduja Leyland Finance, Sammaan Finserve ₹10.40 Lakh for Regulatory Lapses
Moneylife Digital Team 07 September 2026
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a total penalty of ₹10.40 lakh on two non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) for failing to comply with regulatory directions issued by the banking regulator.

Hinduja Leyland Finance has been penalised ₹6.20 lakh for non-compliance with certain provisions relating to the pricing of microfinance loans and securitisation of standard assets.

RBI’s statutory inspection found that Hinduja Leyland Finance had failed to put in place a board-approved policy for pricing microfinance loans. The inspection also found that the NBFC had undertaken activities in the nature of ‘synthetic securitisation’, in violation of the applicable regulatory directions.

Sammaan Finserve has been fined ₹4.20 lakh for non-compliance with certain provisions of the RBI’s directions on early recognition of stress and reporting to the central repository of information on large credits (CRILC). The NBFC failed to report the credit information of a borrower to CRILC.

In both cases, RBI clarified that the penalties are based on deficiencies in regulatory compliance and are not intended to pronounce on the validity of any transactions or agreements these entities entered into with their customers.
