'One Nation, One Ration Card' across India by March 2021
The Central government on Thursday announced 'one nation, one ration card' system to allow national portability of ration cards for the people, who can now avail the benefits under the PDS system wherever they are in the country.

The scheme was announced by Union finance minister (FM) Nirmala Sitharaman to enable migrant beneficiaries to access any fair price shop in the country to get food grains and other items.

During the nationwide lock-down due to the cornavirus scare, there was a lot of criticism that the government had failed to provide food to stranded migrant labourers.

The new system is part of the Prime Minister's technology-driven system reforms wherein 670 million persons will benefit in 23 states.

The 'one nation, one ration card' policy will be rolled out 100% by March 2021. This will ensure people get ration in whichever corner of the country they may be.

A welcome move: 'one nation, one ration card' system to allow national portability of ration cards for the people. It is possible with the advanced technology in the same way as the mobile telephones, banking internet services, etc. It will help reducing corruption provided the procedure is the same across the country and ration shops are not the inherited family business.

I've not been issued a Ration card because I refused to pay bribes. So now, will I get a new ration card without any hassles?

This simple idea which should have been thought of and implemented before this crisis will now be put in place by the central gov.
I worry that Modi govt's usual shoddy implementation will make this less user friendly than it could be but perhaps the ministers have learned their lesson and will get help from all entities and people irrespective of their ideology before the plan is formalized.
