NSE said Vicky Dhakad is not registered as a member or authorised person of any registered member of the Exchange and that a police complaint had been lodged.

NSE also highlighted the legal consequences associated with dabba trading. It said that under Section 23(1) of the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1956 (SCRA), contravention of Sections 13, 16, 17 or 19 can attract prosecution and, on conviction, imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine of up to ₹25 crore, or both. NSE has advised investors not to subscribe to schemes or products promising indicative, assured or guaranteed returns in the stock market, as such offers are prohibited by law. It has also specifically warned investors against sharing trading credentials, including user IDs and passwords, with anyone.

The Exchange has asked investors to verify whether a person claiming to provide stock broking or related services is genuinely associated with a registered intermediary. Its ‘know/locate your stock broker’ facility enables investors to check registered members and their authorised persons. The facility also displays designated client bank accounts disclosed by trading members for receiving or paying money to investors.

NSE has further warned that investors participating in such prohibited or illegal schemes do so at their own risk, cost and consequences, as these platforms and schemes are neither approved nor endorsed by the Exchange. Importantly, investors involved in such schemes would not have access to benefits of investor protection under the Exchange's jurisdiction, the Exchange's dispute resolution mechanism or its investor grievance redressal mechanism.

The repeated warnings underline the risks posed by unregistered operators using social-media channels and digital platforms to lure investors with the promise of easy or guaranteed stock market profits. Investors should verify the registration status of any intermediary before transferring money, sharing trading credentials or allowing another person to handle their trading account.
