Nifty, Sensex Under Pressure – Monday Closing Report

On Monday, the indices opened gap down and ended with a loss. On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), 1,195 stocks advanced, 922 declined and 54 remained unchanged with advance decline ratio of 1.30, indicating strength in broader markets.
 
The trend of the major indices on Monday’s trading are given in the table below:
 
 
Nifty Sensex declined, dragged by large cap IT stocks ahead of Q4FY21-22 earnings. Sector wise BSE IT was the biggest loser whereas BSE Power was the biggest gainer. BSE Midcap and BSE Small cap continued to outperform benchmark indices rising by 0.41% and 0.38% respectively. 
 
Sandur Manganese closed on 20% upper circuit after announcing rights issue of 1.8 crore equity shares in the ratio of two new equity share for each held on the record date. The rights issue is priced at Rs 10 per share. It has also announced capex of Rs 900 to Rs 950 per share. KKR has acquired 9.99% stake in Shriram General Insurance. Ambuja Cement closed 8% higher on the back of heavy volumes. 
 
In large trades, 4.77 million shares were traded in NTPC and 1.28 million shares changed hands in Indus Tower. Bharti Airtel closed in red after 1.4 million shares changed hands and Zomato closed in green after 1 million shares changed hands.
 
Godrej Industries has announced launch of Godrej Capital which currently operates in top metro cities of India. Godrej Industries will invest Rs5,000 crore by 2026 and company aims to build a balance sheet of Rs30,000 crore by 2026. It will focus on secured loans like home loans. 
 
MCX is planning to collaborate with Chittagong Stock Exchange for setting up commodities derivatives platform in Bangladesh.
 
Veranda Learning listed at a premium of 14.6% to its IPO price of Rs 137. PayTM closed 12% higher on the back of heavy volumes. India 10-year bond yield touched 3 year high at 7.18%. In Pakistan, the opposition leader Shebaz Sharif has been elected as the new PM. Bank of Baroda has announced 0.5% rise in marginal cost (MCLR) based loans.
