HDFC Bank fell today mainly because of renewed legal and leadership concerns, a securities lawsuit has been filed in the US against HDFC Bank, MD & CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan, and CFO Srinivasan Vaidyanathan. It alleges that the bank made payments of about ₹45 crore ($4.7 million) to Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), allegedly disguising them as marketing expenses to compensate the agency for higher interest on deposits. HDFC Bank has called the lawsuit without merit and said it will defend itself.
