Maharashtra Voters Can Now Submit Enumeration Form Online as Electoral Roll Revision Begins

Eligible voters in Maharashtra can now submit their enumeration form online through the election commission of India's (ECI) Voter Services Portal as the state begins the special intensive revision (SIR) of its electoral rolls. The online facility allows electors to complete the verification process digitally instead of waiting for a booth level officer (BLO) to visit their homes.

The online facility allows voters to log in using their registered mobile number, fill in the Enumeration Form, upload supporting documents where required and submit it electronically. The move is expected to make the revision exercise more convenient, particularly for working professionals, senior citizens, students living away from home and others who may not be available when BLOs conduct door-to-door verification.

The enumeration form is available at https://voters.eci.gov.in/enumeration-form-new. Once submitted, electors can also track the status of their application through the portal.

The online option has been introduced alongside the traditional house-to-house verification that began across Maharashtra on 30th June. BLOs will continue visiting households over the coming weeks to distribute and collect enumeration forms as part of the SIR. Maharashtra has around 98.6mn registered electors, making this one of the country's largest electoral roll verification exercises. The draft electoral roll is expected to be published in August, followed by a period for claims and objections before the final roll is released later this year.

The ECI has clarified that existing voters may either submit the enumeration form online or hand over the completed form to the BLO during the house visit. The exercise is intended to update electoral rolls by removing duplicate or ineligible entries while ensuring that all eligible citizens continue to remain on the voter list.

The online facility is particularly useful for voters who may be travelling or unavailable when BLOs visit, as well as those who prefer to complete the process at their convenience. Electors seeking to update personal details or make corrections can also use the digital platform instead of relying solely on the physical verification process.

Depending on an elector's circumstances, supporting documents may be required to establish identity, age or place of residence. ECI has indicated that commonly accepted documents include Aadhaar, passport and other officially recognised identity or residence documents, although the exact requirements may vary depending on the category of elector.

The launch of the online enumeration form comes amid heightened public attention on the electoral roll revision exercise following similar verification drives in other states. By providing a digital submission option alongside physical verification, ECI aims to simplify the process and encourage greater participation while improving the accuracy of electoral rolls.

Voters are, nevertheless, advised not to ignore the exercise. Whether they choose to submit the Enumeration Form online or through the visiting BLO, they should ensure that their details are correctly recorded and respond promptly if any additional information or documents are sought by election officials.
