LIC Jeevan Vaibhav: Not for tax-savers
Moneylife Digital Team 28 June 2012

LIC Jeevan Vaibhav is a non-unit linked (traditional) single-premium policy. It is designed as an investment-oriented policy with the insurance cover of only about double your premium. This is far below the requirement of SA to be 10 times the premium for tax benefits at entry or exit of the policy. In case of death during the policy tenure excluding the last policy year, only the basic SA is payable. In case of death during the last policy year, the SA along with applicable loyalty addition would be payable. If the plan matures, the SA along with the loyalty addition will be paid. The SA is fixed and depends on the single-premium paid by you. Loyalty addition is not guaranteed and depends upon the Corporation’s experience. The fixed term of the policy is 10 years. Due to the low insurance component, returns on the investment will be competitive. The policy can be bought for age group of eight years to 65 years. The minimum SA is Rs2 lakh which may be enhanced in multiples of Rs10,000. The minimum premium for base SA is Rs95,210. There is no upper limit of investment.
