Lacking Triggers, Nifty, Sensex Drift Down – Wednesday Market Report

On Wednesday, 2016 stocks advanced, 1918 declined and 139 remained unchanged on Bombay Stock Exchange with advance decline ratio of 1.05 indicating a positive closing in the broader market, as foreign portfolio investors continues to remain positive. The trend of the major indices on Wednesday’s trading is given in the table below. 
 
 
On NSE, 50 securities advanced and closed at a new 52-week high whereas 17 securities sank to close at their new 52-week lows.  In sectoral indices - Nifty Media, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Energy were among the biggest gainers. Nifty FMCG, Nifty Auto and Nifty Pharma were among the biggest losers.
 
ACME Solar Holdings (+3.20%) announced the commissioning of the first phase of a 26.4 MW wind power project in Shapar, Gujarat. This project, undertaken by its wholly-owned subsidiary, ACME Pokhran Solar Private Limited, contributes to a larger 50 MW wind power initiative. With this development, ACME Solar Holdings' total operational renewable energy generation capacity has increased to 2,731.4 MW. 
 
Hindustan Zinc (+0.24%) declared the preferred bidder for two critical and strategic mineral blocks in the Tranche V auctions conducted by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. It secured the Jhandawali – Satipura Amalgamated Potash and Halite Block in Rajasthan with a final price offer of 3.05% and the Nawatola-Laband REE Block in Uttar Pradesh with an offer of 3.55%. The grant of composite licenses for these G3 level exploration blocks is contingent upon fulfilling tender conditions and obtaining necessary government approvals.
 
Zydus (-0.74%) received fast track designation from the USFDA for Usnoflast, a novel oral NLRP3 inhibitor, for the treatment of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). This designation will expedite the development and review process for Usnoflast, which had previously received 'orphan drug designation'. The company is committed to advancing Usnoflast to address the urgent unmet medical need for ALS patients, a fatal neurodegenerative disease.
 
British American Tobacco divested a stake in ITC (-3.16%)  via a block deal, selling shares worth approximately Rs12,926 crore. This transaction exceeded BAT's initial divestment plans. Despite the sale, British American Tobacco maintains a notable shareholding in the Indian conglomerate, holding a 23.1% stake.  
 
Tata Motors (+0.21%) launched its commercial vehicle lineup in Egypt, marking its entry into the North African market. The company partnered with MM Group for Industry and International Trade (MTI) to introduce seven models including the Tata Xenon pickup, Ultra T.7 and T.9 trucks, Prima series heavy vehicles, and the LP 613 bus. 
 
The Supreme Court affirmed the delisting of ICICI Securities, rejecting an investor's petition that contested the share valuation. The petition had argued for a reverse book building mechanism to potentially achieve a higher price for shareholders. However, the court's decision upholds the current delisting process.
