Instamart and HPCL Launch On-demand LPG Cylinder Delivery in Bengaluru

Instamart has partnered with state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) to introduce on-demand liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder delivery on its quick commerce platform, beginning with Bengaluru. The companies said the initiative marks the first time LPG cylinders will be available for instant ordering through a quick commerce platform.

As part of the rollout, consumers in Bengaluru will be able to order HPCL's newly launched HP Navya 10kg composite LPG cylinder through Instamart. The platform will also offer HPCL's 5kg metal LPG cylinder.

According to the companies, the HP Navya cylinder has been designed for urban households and features a lightweight composite body that is corrosion-resistant. It also comes with enhanced safety features and a translucent body that enables users to monitor the remaining gas level without additional equipment.

The companies said the cylinder's compact design is aimed at apartments, small families, students, working professionals and households seeking a secondary LPG connection. They added that customers do not need an existing domestic LPG connection to purchase the cylinder, making it suitable for a broader range of users.

Amitesh Jha, chief executive officer (CEO) of Instamart, said the company has steadily expanded beyond grocery delivery into other everyday-use categories. "Instamart has expanded its consumption use cases well beyond groceries to become part of everyday life. With HPCL, we're extending that convenience to an essential household service, bringing LPG onto Instamart while maintaining the safety and reliability standards consumers expect," he said.

Under the service, consumers can order either the 10kg composite cylinder or the 5kg metal cylinder through the Instamart app. First-time purchases will be treated as new cylinder sales, while subsequent orders can be placed as refills by returning the empty HPCL cylinder at the time of delivery.

The companies said deliveries will be carried out through HPCL's authorised distributor network, with trained personnel handling transportation and delivery in accordance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements. Identity verification and proof-of-delivery documentation will be mandatory for first-time customers.

Instamart said the launch expands its presence into high-trust essential services. The platform currently offers more than 50,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs) across categories.

For HPCL, the partnership adds a digital distribution channel to its existing LPG delivery network, allowing customers to access cylinders through a quick commerce platform while continuing to use the company's authorised distributors for fulfilment.
