IndiGo Announces ₹10,000 Vouchers for Severely Impacted Flyers as DGCA Probes Meltdown
Moneylife Digital Team 11 December 2025
IndiGo has offered travel vouchers worth ₹10,000 to customers who were 'severely impacted' during the three-day meltdown between 3rd December and 5 December 2025. These vouchers will be valid for any IndiGo flight over the next 12 months. The airline clarified that the new ₹10,000 vouchers will be in addition to the compensation mandated under directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) norms which require airlines to pay between ₹5,000 and ₹10,000 to passengers whose flights are cancelled within 24 hours of departure.

In a statement issued on X, the airline says it has initiated all required refunds for cancelled flights, with most amounts already credited and the remaining expected shortly. For bookings made through travel platforms, IndiGo says that refund actions have also been initiated and urged such customers to contact the airline at [email protected] for any pending issues.

The disruptions—triggered by planning failures linked to the rollout of new pilot and crew duty-time norms—led to thousands of delays and cancellations across the country. The situation was particularly acute in Bengaluru, where IndiGo cancelled 60 flights, including 32 arrivals and 28 departures. DGCA has summoned IndiGo's chief executive officer (CEO) Pieter Elbers to appear at 3pm on Thursday to present detailed data and an explanation for the operational breakdown.

Even as the fallout continues, IndiGo says its operations have been steadily improving. The airline reported that all destinations in its network have been fully reconnected since 8th December, with operational stability returning 9 December 2025 onwards. The carrier operated more than 1,750 flights with only one same-day cancellation on 8th December, exceeded 1,800 flights with no cancellations on 9th December and crossed 1,900 flights on 10 December 2025 with only two cancellations. For Thursday, IndiGo says it expects to operate over 1,950 flights carrying nearly 300,000 passengers.

IndiGo added that its senior leadership is reviewing the crisis internally, with chairman Vikram Singh Mehta announcing that external technical experts will be brought in to work with management to identify the root causes of the disruptions and to ensure such systemic failures do not recur.

Reiterating its commitment to customers, the airline says it aims to restore the safe, smooth and reliable travel experience expected of India’s largest carrier, while attempts continue to manage refunds, implement compensation and stabilise high-frequency operations across its network.

Will they get booking, when they need it? Or they will have to play the maximum fare? It is best that Indigo should give cash. Voucher is how much reliable. They also may have time limit to consume it.

Vouchers carry little sense. Cash should be given.
