India's IIP Output Rises to 7.3% in June; 19 of 23 Manufacturing Segments Expand
Moneylife Digital Team 28 July 2026
India's industrial output accelerated to 7.3% in June 2026 from 5.1% in May, driven by stronger manufacturing activity and robust growth in the electricity and gas supply sector, according to data released by the national statistics office (NSO) on Tuesday.

The latest figures mark the third monthly release of the index of industrial production (IIP) based on the new series.

According to NSO, the manufacturing sector grew 7.8% in June, while the electricity and gas supply sector expanded 10.6%, providing the main impetus to industrial growth. Mining and quarrying recorded a modest growth of 1.0%, while the water supply, sewerage and waste management sector grew 6.1%.

"The IIP recorded a 7.3% growth in June, supported by 7.8% growth in the manufacturing sector and strong growth of 10.6% in the electricity and gas supply sector," NSO said.

The quick estimate (QE) of the IIP stood at 123.1 in June 2026 compared with 114.7 in June 2025.

Sector-wise QE indices for June were 110.0 for mining and quarrying, 123.3 for manufacturing, 131.0 for electricity and gas supply, and 145.7 for water supply, sewerage and waste management.

The manufacturing sector recorded broad-based growth, with 19 out of 23 industry groups at the two-digit national industrial classification (NIC) level registering positive growth over June 2025.

Among the best-performing manufacturing segments were the manufacture of electrical equipment, which grew 34.0%, followed by the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers at 17.5%, and the manufacture of food products at 10.8%.

Within the food products category, tea, non-basmati rice and starch recorded significant contributions to overall manufacturing growth during the month.

The data indicate that manufacturing continued to be the primary driver of industrial production, while strong demand for electricity and gas also supported overall industrial expansion.

NSO said the May 2026 IIP figures have undergone final revision after incorporating updated information received from source agencies.

According to the official statement, the QE for June were compiled at a weighted response rate of 86.7%, while the revised estimates for May were based on a response rate of 93.1%.

NSO said the IIP data for July 2026 will be released on 28 August 2026.
