Indian Railways Suspends Ticket Bookings Beyond 3rd May

The Indian railways on Tuesday said that it has suspended ticket booking until further orders for all trains even beyond 3rd May, the extended nationwide lockdown. 
 
In a statement, the railways says, "No advance reservation of train tickets, including e-tickets, till further advice, however, facility of online cancellation will remain functional." 
 
 
The announcement by the Indian Railways came soon after prime minister Narendra Modi in his fourth special address to the nation announced the extension of lockdown by 19 more days till 3rd May to combat the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID19) pandemic crisis in the country.
 
The ministry of railway further says that all ticket counters for bookings including unreserved ticketing system (UTS) and PRS (Passenger Reservation System), will remain suspended till further orders.
 
While ticket booking would be suspended, the facility for online cancellation would remain functional, it added.
 
Passengers who have booked tickets online for trains up to 3rd May would receive refund automatically. These passengers are not required to cancel such tickets. 
 
"As far as trains cancelled up to 3rd May is concerned, the refunds would be automatically done by the Railways to the tickets bought online online, while those who have booked advanced tickets at the booking counters, can file refund claims up to 31 July 2020 at any of the counters," the ministry says.
 
In addition, passengers who want to cancel tickets booked beyond 3rd May will also receive full refunds even though the trains are not yet cancelled.
 
The railways had suspended the reservation from 24st March till 14 April 2020 due to the 21-day nationwide lockdown.
 
However, even then the railways had not suspended ticket booking of trains for journeys beyond 14th April.
