India reports over 2 lakh new Covid cases for second straight day

India reported 2,17,353 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the biggest single-day spike ever, taking the overall tally to 1.43 crore cases on Friday, according to the Health Ministry data.

This is the second consecutive day that the country has registered over 2 lakh cases. On Thursday, the number was 2,00,739.

Also in the last 24 hours, there were 1,185 new Covid-19 fatalities, the second consecutive day with over a thousand deaths.

This took the overall death toll in the country to 1.74 lakh.

Meanwhile, the daily active cases tally on Friday rose to 15.70 lakh.

A total of 1.18 lakh patients recovered in the same time span, taking the number of recoveries to 1.26 crore with a recovery rate of 88.31%.

The Health Ministry said that a total of 14.73 lakh samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

So far, 26.35 crore samples have been tested in the country.

According to the government data, a total of 27.30 lakh people were also vaccinated in the same period, taking the total inoculation count to 11.72 crore.

India reported 2,00,739 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the biggest single-day spike ever, taking the overall tally to 1.41 crore cases on Thursday, according to the Health Ministry data.

India's daily deaths due to Covid are also rising with 1,038 new deaths reported on Thursday, the second consecutive day with over thousand deaths. This took the overall death toll in the country to 1.73 lakh.

A total of 93,528 patients recovered in the same time span, taking the number of recoveries to 1.24 crore with a recovery rate of 88.31%.

The Health Ministry said that a total of 13.85 lakh samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

So far, 26.20 crore samples have been tested in the country.

According to the government data, a total of 33.14 lakh people were also vaccinated in the same period, taking the total inoculation count to 11.45 crore.

India reported 1,84,372 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, setting another grim one-day record, taking the overall tally to 13.87 lakh on Wednesday, according to the data issued by the Union Health Ministry.

In the same period, 1,027 more people succumbed to the disease, which increased the death toll to 1.72 lakh.

India is now the fourth-worst Covid affected country worldwide after the number of active cases rose to 13.66 lakh.

A total of 83,339 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 1.23 crore with a recovery rate of 88.92%.

The Health Ministry said that a total of 14.11 lakh samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

So far, 26.06 crore samples have been tested.

A total of 26.46 lakh people were also vaccinated in the same period, taking the total inoculation count to 11.12 crore.
 
India reports 1.68 lakh fresh Covid-19 cases, 904 deaths in past 24 hours

India reported 1,68,912 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, setting another grim one-day record as the overall tally reached 1,35,27,717 so far. The health ministry data said here on Monday. With this, India has once again taken its spot as the second-worst hit nation in terms of infections after the US.

As many as 904 deaths were reported taking the total Covid related deaths in the country to 1,70,179 so far.

India is now the fourth-worst Covid affected country worldwide after the number of active cases rose to 12,01,009.

A total of 75,086 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 1,21,56,529 with a recovery rate of 90.44 per cent.

The Health Ministry said that a total of 11,80,136 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 25,78,06,986 samples have been tested.

A total of 29,33,418 people were vaccinated in the last 24 hours taking the total vaccination count to 10,415,28,565.

States such as Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan have shown a steep rise in new Covid-19 cases.
 
India reports 1.32 lakh new Covid cases, 780 deaths in past 24 hours

India has reported 1,31,968 new Covid-19 cases and 780 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

India is now the fourth-worst Covid-hit country worldwide after the number of active cases rose to 9,79,608. The death toll stood at 1,67,642, the Health Ministry said.

A total of 61,899 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 1,19,13,292 with a recovery rate of 91.22 per cent.

The Health Ministry said that a total of 13,64,205 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 25,40,41,584 samples have been tested.

A total of 36,91,511 people were vaccinated in the last 24 hours taking the total vaccination count to 9,43,34,262.

In a meeting with chief ministers on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed all states and Union Territories to focus on aggressive testing and micro-containment to curb the spread of Covid-19.
 
India becomes fastest Covid vaccinating country, surpasses US

India has become the fastest Covid-19 vaccinating country in the world with a daily average of 30,93,861 vaccine doses, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday. With this, India has surpassed the US which is vaccinating 30.93 lakh people per day on an average.

According to the ministry, the cumulative number of coronavirus vaccine doses administered in India so far has crossed 8.70 crore on Day 81 of the vaccination drive that was launched on January 16, nearly a month after it was started in the US. Till April 6, India had administered 33,37,601 vaccine doses to the beneficiaries.

A total of 8,70,77,474 vaccine doses have been administered so far in India through 13,32,130 sessions. These include 89,63,724 healthcare workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose and 53,94,913 HCWs who have taken the second dose. As many 97,36,629 frontline workers have taken the first dose, while 43,12,826 of them have been administered the second shot.

On the flip side, new Covid cases continue to rise in India with the country recording over 1.15 lakh fresh cases in the last 24 hours, the biggest-ever single-day surge since the onset of the pandemic early last year, taking its overall tally to 12,801,785. The number of active cases inb the country presently stands at 843,473.

As per reports, India is the fourth most affected country in the world in terms of active cases.

 
 
India records 1.16 lakh Covid-19 cases, highest ever daily tally

India recorded 1,15,736 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the biggest-ever single-day surge since the onset of the pandemic early last year, taking the overall tally to 12,801,785 on Wednesday, according to the Health Ministry.

Active cases crossed the 800,000 mark in the last 24 hours and now stands at 843,473, comprising 6.59 per cent of the total infections.

Reports suggest that India is now the fourth most affected country in the world in terms of active cases.

On Tuesday, the Health Ministry said that the next four weeks will be "very critical".

Also in the last 24 hours, a total of 59,856 patients recovered, with the recovery rate reported to be at 92.11 per cent.

Meanwhile, the death toll increased to 1,66,177 on Wednesday with 630 new fatalities. The fatality rate stood at 1.30 per cent.

A total of 12,08,329 samples were tested for Covid-19 in the period, taking the total sample tests so far 25,14,39,598.

In the meantime, India has vaccinated 33,37,601 in the last 24 hours, while 8,70,77,474 doses of the corona jabs have been administered in the country since the drive began on January 16 after the approval for the Covishield and Covaxin.

On April 1, the third phase of the vaccination drive began under which anyone 45 years or older is allowed to get a jab.

Amid the continued surge in Covid-19 cases in India again in the past few weeks, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday that vaccination is being carried out on the basis of priority.

It added that the aim of the drive is to vaccinate the ones who need it most, rather than the ones who want to get inoculated.

India recorded 96,982 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 1,26,86,049 on Tuesday. This comes a day after daily cases crossed one-lakh mark.

On Monday, the country recorded 1,03,558 new coronavirus cases, the highest single-day tally since the coronavirus outbreak.

Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab have shown a steep rise in the daily new cases.

The Central Government has rushed 50 high-level multi-disciplinary public health teams to 50 districts across Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Punjab in view of the recent very large numbers of daily new Covid-19 cases and daily mortality being consistently reported by these States.

The active cases have now increased to 7,88,223 comprising 6.21 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 92.48 per cent.

The death toll increased to 1,65,547 with 446 daily new fatalities. The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 1,17,32,279, while the case fatality rate stood at 1.30 per cent, the data stated.

A total of 25,02,31,269 samples tested for Covid up to April 5. Of these, 12,11,612 samples were tested on Monday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research.

The Centre has advised high-burden states and union territories to take stringent measures for containment of the surge.

So far, 8.31 crore doses of corona vaccine have been administered in the country since the drive began on January 16 after approval for 'Covishield' and 'Covaxin'.

India registered 1,03,558 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the highest ever single-day spike since the onset of the pandemic last year, taking the total tally to 1,25,89,067 on Monday.

Daily cases in India had peaked on September 16, 2020, with 97,894 people testing positive for the virus in a single day.

Monday's figure is the highest spike since the first case was detected in the country last January.

The country has witnessed an unabated rise in the number of fresh cases.

Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Haryana have been deemed states of "grave concern".

The active cases have currently increased to 7,41,830 comprising 5.89 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 92.80 per cent.

On Monday, the death toll increased to 1,65,101 with 478 new fatalities.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 1,16,82,136, while the case fatality rate stood at 1.31 per cent, according to official data.

Taking note of the spike in cases, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday and directed that the "mission-mode" approach should continue in states and districts reporting the resurgence.

He exhorted all states to take required stringent measures with comprehensive restrictions in places so that the collective gains of Covid management in the country in the last 15 months are not squandered.

The Centre has advised high-burden states and union territories to take stringent measures for containment of the surge.

So far, 7.91 crore doses of corona vaccine have been administered in the country since the drive began on January 16.

India recorded 81,466 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, highest since October 2020, taking the total tally to 1,23,03,131 on Friday.

The country has been recording a spike in cases for over three weeks. Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh are logging steep rise in daily new cases.

The active cases have now increased to 6,14,696 comprising 5 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 93.89 per cent.

The death toll increased to 1,63,396 with 469 daily new fatalities.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 1,15,25,039, while the case fatality rate stood at 1.33 per cent, the data stated.

A total of 24,59,12,587 samples tested for Covid-19 up to April 1. Of these, 11,13,966 samples were tested on Thursday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research.

The death toll increased to 1,62,927 with 459 daily new fatalities.
 
The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 1,14,74,683, while the case fatality rate stood at 1.33 per cent, the data stated.
 
A total of 24,47,98,621 samples were tested for Covid-19 up to March 31. Of these, 11,25,681 samples were tested on Wednesday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research.
