BIS Raids Ulhasnagar Cable Manufacturer for Misusing ISI Mark

A team of officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)’s Mumbai office raided a cable manufacturer from Ulhasnagar in Thane district and found the manufacturer using BIS certification mark (ISI mark) without a valid license. The BIS team seized around 155 coils and marking wheels during the raid.  
 
On 19th February, the team conducted an enforcement search and seizure operation at Ulhasnagar to check the misuse of ISI Mark on PVC insulated cables. During the raid at the premises of Jhalak Cables in Khemani Industrial Area they found misuse of the BIS certification or ISI mark on PVC insulated cables with various brand names ‘MAXX’, ‘DEE PEE’, ‘AEROLEX’, and ‘GOLDEN KING’. 
 
 
The misuse of BIS Standard Mark is punishable with imprisonment up to two years or a fine of minimum Rs2 lakh or both as per BIS Act 2016. Action is being initiated to file a case in the court of law for the offence, the BIS said in a statement.
 
 
 
It says, “It has been observed many times that fake ISI marked products are manufactured and sold to consumers for huge profit. Therefore, all are requested to ascertain the genuineness of ISI Mark on the product before making purchase, by visiting BIS website http://www.bis.gov.in.”
 
 
BIS has appealed citizens to inform its office in case they come across any instance of misuse of ISI Mark on any product.
