Ask A Question

Q. Hi, I have a question regarding the KYC norms for Mutual funds investments for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI). An OCI who is residing in India for the past 2 years, does he need to change his KYC status to that of Resident Indian from NRI? Thanks Karthik
A. Yes, you will have to update your status as an NRI under KYC of mutual funds. You can get the form from your AMC, attach the following documents and subit with the AMC, whi will get your status updated.

1) Completed KYC application form
2) Address Proof
3) PAN Card

You will have to carry your originals for verification.
If you are sending the document through a courier, documents need to be attested by a Notary Public, Gazetted Officer, or Manager of a scheduled commercial bank.

Additionally for NRI info you will have to carry attested copies (by the Consulate office or overseas branches of scheduled commercial banks registered in India) of the following:-

1) Certified True Copy of Passport
2) Certified True Copy of the Overseas address
3) Permanent address

If you are not visiting India and want to apply from overseas, you will need to get the soft copy of the KYC form that is made available on the website of all Mutual Funds, AMFI and Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL). The form, along with the attested supporting documents will have to be couriered and mailed.
