Venky’s to invest Rs50 crore for expansion programme in poultry segment

Venky's (India) Ltd, formerly Western Hatcheries Ltd, said it undertook an expansion programme with an investment of about Rs50 crore in poultry products segment.

Venky's is engaged in animal health products, pellet feeds, processed, and further processed chicken products, solvent oil extraction, and specific pathogen free (SPF) eggs.

On Friday, Venky's shares rose 7.5% to Rs860 on Bombay Stock Exchange, while the benchmark Sensex closed 0.1% down at 18,221 points.

Suzlon wins 30 MW order from Altrade group

Wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon Energy Ltd said it won a 30 MW order from Altrade Group through its two group companies - Tarini Minerals (P) and Indrani Patnaik. No financial details were provided.

Suzlon will set up, operate and maintain the project to be installed at wind farms in the Jaisalmer and Jodhpur districts of Rajasthan. The project will comprise 20 units of Suzlon's S82-1.5 MW wind turbine generators (WTG) and will be commissioned by January 2011.

Orissa-based Altrade Group focuses primarily on the iron ore mining industry and is further diversifying into the real estate and hospitality sectors.

On Friday, Suzlon shares ended 2.6% lower at Rs50 on Bombay Stock Exchange, while the benchmark Sensex closed 0.1% down at 18,221 points.

Ashok Leyland sales jump 56.4% to 7,840 units

Commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland Ltd reported a 56.4% jump in commercial vehicle sales at 7,480 units in August 2010 from 4,784 units a year ago.
Its domestic sales stood at 6,705 units in August 2010 as against 4,233 units in the same month last year, up 58.4%, it added. Exports increased by 40.7% to 775 units in the month compared to 551 units in the year-ago period.

The company also reported a 59.9% increase in total domestic sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles at 6,652 units from 4,161 units in the same month last year.

On Friday, Ashok Leyland shares ended 1.3% down at Rs75 on Bombay Stock Exchange, while the benchmark Sensex closed 0.1% down at 18,221 points.
