Change SEBI’s attitude

SEBI does not implement its own Act (SEBI Act, 1992). SEBI, as everybody knows, is a public body funded by the ministry of finance, department of economic affairs. But the arrogant behaviour of SEBI officials raises the question about why such regulatory authorities should remain a burden on common man. It showers special favours on super rich/ multi-billionaires who have enough money and muscle power to look after their interests.

Secondly, it does not care for Right to Information Act, 2005. It does not entertain most of the RTI applications. Even if the applications are accepted, SEBI is not ready to implement the decisions/orders of the chief information commissioner, Satyananda Mishra (IC/SM/A/2012 /000822 dated January 11, 2013).
If Moneylife Foundation can do anything to change this attitude of UK Sinha or SEBI full-time member, Prashant Saran, I will send full details of my case for perusal and action.

Sucheta Dalal replies:
We agree. It does raise these questions and we at Moneylife have been trying hard to get the government and various MPs to notice this fact. We ourselves have had a couple of big victories on the RTI front—but after a long-fought battle. Let me point you to some links: Power of RTI: CIC directs SEBI to disclose all information related to PMS
