Rahul Gandhi is a British national, alleges Dr Subramanian Swamy
BJP leader Dr Subramaniam Swamy, in a press conference, produced documents to back his charge that Rahul Gandhi had claimed he was a British citizen in company filings submitted in the UK during 2003 to 2009. Since, India does not allow dual citizenship, Rahul Gandhi should be stripped of his citizenship and membership of the Lok Sabha, the BJP leader demanded

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dr Subramanian Swamy has alleged that Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi is a British national and is liable to be stripped of his citizenship of India and membership of the Lok Sabha.

Rahul Gandhi, in corporate filings of a company called Backops Ltd, registered in the UK had represented himself as British national in 2003. The company was dissolved in 2009, Dr Swamy said.

Dr Swamy, in a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said, ".. (in) the company annual returns, Mr Rahul Gandhi has given his date of birth correctly but has declared himself to be of British nationality with an UK address. Mr Rahul Gandhi also held 65% of the shares of the total shares issued by this company (Backops Ltd) as on 10 October 2010. Finally, in the dissolution application as well, Mr Rahul Gandhi states that his nationality is British as on the date he was appointed as Director of the said company."

"While UK permits dual citizenship, India emphatically does not. Article 18 prohibits an Indian citizen from accepting even foreign titles. Hence, Mr Rahul Gandhi has, prima facie, committed an unconstitutional act and therefore liable to be stripped of his citizenship and membership of the Lok Sabha," Dr Swamy said.

According to the former Cabinet Minister for Commerce, Law & Justice, no member of Indian Parliament can incorporate a company abroad without prior permission under the existing laws and without declaring the same in his nomination form as a candidate for election to the Parliament.

Dr Swamy also alleged that the Congress leader has an illegal undeclared account in Pictet Bank, headquartered in Zurich and the Enforcement Directorate is aware about it. He said, "I believe that Mr P Chidambaram had cleared before demitting office for the opening of an Indian branch of Pictet Bank, which may be verified whether it so happened. I am told on good authority that when Mr Rahul Gandhi was taken into custody on 24 September 2001 or thereabouts, at Logan airport in Boston with undeclared $160,000 in cash, he had told the US authorities that this was his money withdrawn from Pictet Bank and submitted proof of the same to the US authorities. Unfortunately, the then Prime Minister Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee in a fit of sympathy for the family, intervened and settled the case to enable Mr Rahul Gandhi to return to India. I am sure that the records of these happening are available in the PMO.”

Twitter has been abuzz since Dr Swamy’s conference and the revelations have been trending on social media.

According to journalist J Gopikrishnan of the Pioneer, “Rahul Gandhi's Co-Director in London company is US Citizen Ulrik McKnight, son-in-law of former Union Minister Eduardo Felario. Rahul have 65%”.

He further tweeted that Dr Swamy had “exposed this Indian Co Backops Services Ltd in October 2012 at Ahmedabad PC. A week before National Herald”.

According to Swapan Dasgupta, the address of Backops Ltd was same as Ramola Bachchan, sister-in-law of Amitabh Bachchan.

From these different declarations in important documents , what one can infer is that the documents are not subjected to any serious scrutiny and anybody can get away with anything till some people like Dr Swamy for some very obvious reasons make it sensational at the opportune moment. The fact of the matter is that the Registrar of Companies has not bothered to make an intelligent scrutiny of the documents and sought the vital clarifications then and there to avoid controversies.

Dr Swami may be right, or probably wrong! But the kind of presence in limelight he is trying to capture by making news does not add to his credibility. Remember his accusations about Dr Raghuram Rajan?

The maverick Dr. Subramanian Swamy is again in the news.
all Politicians and Political Parties are required to be brought under the RTI.
Only then will the Lay Man get to know the Truth.
The Politicians only gets exposed when he stands for elections and here also what is given by them is to be taken at face value,
till ALL INDIANS who are holding public office (elected or babus) are under RTI, only then we can know the truth.

Dr. Subramanian Swamy is a maverick and had been a two term Janata Party LS M.P. during 1977-84. In 1990-91 he became Finance Minister in defector ChandraShekar Govt propped up by Rajiv Gandhi. He had success in exposing Jayalalitha in 1996, Karuna family, Rama Krishna Hegde etc. However it is equally true that he supped with Jaya and got elected to LS with her blessings in 1998 only to pull plug of Vajpayee in 1999 with Sonia Gandhi. In 2014 Dr. Swamy was embraced by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. So only thing for sure is Dr. Swamy is in look out for a suitable suitor to dress him up as a Minister of Union cabinet that too as Home or Finance Minister. Recently he has fallen out of favour with Home Ministry

Baba Ramdev launches Patanjali 'atta' noodles
Baba Ramdev-promoted Patanjali on Monday formally launched its whole wheat instant noodles, just a week after product leader Nestle's Maggi re-hit the retail shelves after a five-month ban imposed by the food-safety regulator.

The "atta" noodle has been priced at Rs.15 for a 70-gram pack.

With the launch, Patanjali has entered another major food segment to take on multinational firms -- such as Tropicana's fruit juices, Kellogg's muesli and cornflakes, Mondelez "Cadbury" India's Bournvita -- not to mention well established cosmetics and home grown ayurvedic brands.

Last month, Patanjali -- which had a turnover of around Rs.1,200 crore in 2014 with a projection of Rs.2,000 crore this year -- had announced an agreement with the Future Group to sell its noodles through Big Bazaar and Nilgiri's supermarkets across 240 cities.

It also has a similar agreement with Reliance Fresh.

"The profits we make from the sale of our noodles and other products will be used for educating the under-priviledged children," Ramdev told a press conference here, adding that the launch was in line with the idea of introducing healthier products that are made in India.

"We are also planning six-seven large production units across India over the next one year. One factory with a capacity of 100-200 tonnes will be set up in the NCR (National Capital Region)," he added.
