The Maharashtra State Consumer Redressal Commission has directed a developer to give the 1,700sq ft flat in Andheri East (Mumbai), promised to Hermione Salazar more than 26 years ago. The lady was one of the five heirs to the land sold to the developer. The builder also has to pay her Rs60,000 as compensation. The current market value of a 1,700sq ft flat is almost Rs3 crore; in 1987, it was around Rs15 lakh.
The Maharashtra State Consumer Redressal Commission recently ordered a home-buyer to compensate the builder for loss due to non-payment of the balance amount with interest before getting possession of the flat. Vencillious and Sandra Fernandes, residents of Sai Leela Evershine Society at Vasai East, were ordered to pay the builder, within 30 days, the balance sum of Rs7.94 lakh with 9% interest for the past seven years. City Developers had challenged an order passed by the district commission in Thane directing them to give possession of the flat to the buyers on paying the balance sum without interest.
