Combined food inflation stood at 6.13% for January 2015, compared to 5% recorded for December 2014. For rural and urban areas, food inflation was 5.69% and 6.93%, respectively, in January. Inflation in vegetable prices was seen at 9% in January, compared to inflation of 0.58% in December. Inflation in fruit prices was 10.62% in January, while pulses were dearer by 9.37% year-on-year. Inflation for cereals stood at 2.76% and inflation for milk products was 9.38%. The price rise of non-vegetarian items, such as eggs, meat and fish, was 4.21% in January compared to 5.24% in December 2014.
