Stocks of real estate companies, energy companies and sugar companies advanced 37%, 28% and 26%, respectively. Shares of pharmaceutical companies declined 5% and shares of software & IT services companies fell 2%, while shares of healthcare companies rose 2%.
Combined inflation for urban and rural areas increased to 8.59% in April 2014, from 8.31% in March 2014. Inflation in urban areas increased marginally, to 7.69% in April from 7.51% in March. Food inflation in urban areas increased to 8.29% in April from 7.60% in March. Inflation for vegetables in urban areas increased to 11.34% in April from around 9.56% in March. Inflation related to fuel & power declined to 4.53% in April from 4.93% in March. Inflation for housing stood at 9.73%. Inflation for clothing remained unchanged at 8% and miscellaneous items declined to 6.19%, respectively.
