Stocks of retail companies soared 10%, while stocks of packaging and education companies advanced 5% each. Shares of real estate companies and airlines companies declined 7% and 6%, respectively. Shares of media companies, cement companies and trading companies fell 2% each.
Combined inflation for urban and rural areas increased to 8.31% in March 2014, from 8.10% in February 2014. Inflation in urban areas fell marginally to 7.51% in March from 7.55% in February. Food inflation in urban areas increased marginally to 7.53% in March from 7.16% in February. Inflation for vegetables in urban areas increased to 9.56% in March from around 7.36% in February. Inflation related to fuel & power declined to 4.94% in March from 5.42% in February. Inflation for housing stood at 9.89%. Inflation for clothing and miscellaneous items remained unchanged at 8% and 6.50%, respectively.
