Honda Motorcycle & Scooter sales up 6% in May

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India reported 6% increase in total sales for May at 145,729 units

Two-wheeler manufacturer Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) reported 6% increase in total sales for May at 145,729 units.

The company’s total sales stood at 1,37,842 units in the corresponding month of the previous year, HMSI said in a statement.

During May, motorcycle sales grew 16% to 69,488 units as against 60,040 units in May 2010, it added.

The company, however, reported a decline of 2% in scooter sales to 76,241 units last month from 77,802 units during the same month last year.

Bajaj Auto’s motorcycle sales up 18% in May

Bajaj Auto recorded its highest ever exports for May at 1,26,818 units compared to 95,964 units in May 2010

The country’s second largest two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto (BAL) reported its highest ever motorcycle sales for May at 3,17,989 units in last month, registering a jump of 18%. The company had sold 2,69,488 units in the corresponding month last year, BAL said in a statement.

BAL recorded its highest ever exports for May at 1,26,818 units compared to 95,964 units in May 2010, registering a growth of 32.15%.

The company also reported its best sales figures for May in the three-wheeler segment during the last month at 40,860 units as against 29,954 units in the same month last year, showing a jump of 36.41%.

Total vehicle sales of the company in May 2011, stood at 3,58,849 units compared to 2,99,442 units in the same period a year ago, showing a growth of 19.84%, the statement said.

On Thursday, BAL ended 2.22% up at Rs1,368.25 on the Bombay Stock Exchange, while the benchmark Sensex declined 0.62% to 18,494.18.
