Timtara.com director, COO arrested by Delhi police for cheating

Director and chief operations officer of timtara.com were arrested by the Delhi police for cheating customers of several lakh of rupees

After several warnings and outcries raised by duped consumers there seems to be some ray of hope for online buyers cheated by www.timtara.com. According to media reports, the Delhi police arrested Arindam Bose, director of timatara.com, and his associate Harish Ahluwalia following about 200 complaints of cheating and fraud by the portal.

The e-buying website has been attracting negative publicity due to its pathetic approach towards consumers through delayed shipments of products, inefficient consumer support systems and lack of refunds from the website.

Investigations have revealed that the portal was actively involved in fraud. Many have been cheated on the pretext of providing cheap products. Most of the victims were lured by misleading advertisements, high discount offers and false representations on the website, police said.

According to police, timtara.com also shut down its front office in Sector-8, Noida, and changed its location to avoid detection and confrontation with the customers they had cheated.

Consumers allege the website treats its buyers very rudely. The site neither offers cash-on-delivery, like other online shopping portals, nor does it deliver products in time to buyers, with innumerable complaints posted on Timtara’s own fan page on social networking website Facebook, as well as, on review websites such as Mouthshut.com. ( )

Disillusioned by the process of waiting for refunds, the consumers also launched an online campaign and formed a group on Facebook. The dubious activities of the website and its unclear motives were also featured on a TV programme. In the programme, cyber law expert Pawan Duggal pointed out that consumers can launch complaints under Section 34 of the Consumer Protection Act.

Regular monitoring and complaints by consumers ensured that the activities of this website were also highlighted in some newspapers. Moneylife had earlier covered Timtara (click here to read the article  ) and noted that even though various discounts were displayed on the official fan page of the website on Facebook, there were several complaints registered against the portal.

Respondents ought to go ahead to lodge your claims. The spark has been lit. Let the flames spread. Act here and now to help the police file an iron cast case.

Online buying sites or the e commerce portals are going to be the next bubble to burst like the dot com bubble that burst not long ago.
All of these sites are targeting more or less the same online buyers, offer the same goods or services and at supposedly hefty discounts.
What is surprising is that these companies are getting funded by PE funds/investment banks.Once they get the money they are all trying to increase their ad budgets or gobble another similar company.Nobody is worried about revenues or bottomline.
Like the dotcom bubble days these sites are also on a registration acquiring spree. They are not worried if you register and do not buy anything. All they need is to increase "registered buyers".So that they can go to the next VC/PE fund and get their millions to spend and go down the drain.
Online buyers be on their guard as they are currently least worried about their personal data or creidt card/online banking transactions to get these supposedly "hugely discounted" goods. They are inviting online fraudsters to attack and hijack their mail/bank/credit card details etc.
This is apart from possibly losing money for not getting the promised goods delivered even after payment.
