Bovespa and Hang Seng advanced 9% and 6%, respectively, while Nikkei and Nasdaq Composite rose 2% each. FTSE rose 4%.
Sugar companies were in demand during the fortnight. Dwarikesh Sugar Industries, Dhampur Sugar Mills and Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar soared 57%, 42% and 39%, respectively. KCP Sugar & Industries advanced 32%.
Media companies were punished. Sun TV Network and Dish TV India declined 6% each; Hinduja Ventures, Den Networks, HT Media and Hathway Cable & Datacom fell 3% each.
