Food Inflation

Combined food inflation was 4.29% for September 2015, compared to 2.92% recorded for August 2015. For rural and urban areas, food inflation was 4.55% and 3.79%, respectively, in September. Vegetable prices remained unchanged in September compared to the same period last year. Inflation in fruit prices was 0.94% in September, while pulses were dearer by 29.76% y-o-y. Inflation for cereals stood at 1.38% and inflation for milk products was 5.05%. Price rise of non-vegetarian items, such as meat and fish, was 5.59% in September compared to 5.63% in August 2015.
