Combined food inflation was 5.13% for May 2015, compared to 5.44% recorded for April 2015. For rural and urban areas, food inflation was 5.16% and 5.08%, respectively, in May. Inflation in vegetable prices was at 4.64% in May, compared to 6.55% in April. Inflation in fruit prices was 3.84% in May, while pulses were dearer by 16.62% year-on-year. Inflation for cereals stood at 1.98% and inflation for milk products was 7.43%. Price rise of non-vegetarian items, such as meat and fish, was 5.43% in May compared to 5.42% in April 2015.
