Falling auto sales signal that the cost of car ownership must reduce drastically
The automobile sales numbers of May 2012 have been analysed and debated enough, though they represent dealer lift-off—not registration data—and are, therefore, subject to further comment. At the time of writing this column, indications for mid-June 2012 are that things are even worse, with actual dealer sales having slowed down to a trickle, in most cases. First-hand impressions from Delhi are that there are certainly fewer cars and bikes on the roads.
