Shares of plastics companies and non-ferrous metals companies advanced 5% each, while shares of shipping companies rose 4%. Stocks of airlines companies declined 14%, while stocks of sugar companies fell 6%. Stocks of consumer durables companies fell 5%.
Combined inflation for urban and rural areas increased marginally to 5.11% in January 2015 from 5% in December 2014. However, inflation in urban areas declined to 4.96% in January from 5.32% in December. Food inflation in urban areas rose to 6.93% in January from 5.43% in December. Prices of vegetables, in urban areas, increased by 13% year-on-year, in January. Inflation related to fuel & power declined to 2.16%. Inflation for housing declined to 5.11% in January from 7.84% in December. Inflation for clothing declined to 5.25% and miscellaneous items declined, marginally, to 3.62% in January.
