1,336 US mutual funds shut shop in 2009

Mutual funds are not always safe. All told, 1,336 mutual funds—counting each share class separately—were liquidated last year. Counting each individual portfolio, about 425 funds died last year. Irish start-up raises $230,000 by using LinkedIn

An Irish software start-up has collected $230,000 using the social networking site LinkedIn. Seven hundred e-mails were sent to potential investors through LinkedIn earlier this month, generating 200 replies by phone, e-mail and Twitter. The company raised €162,500 in just eight days.
